Repiping
Complete repiping services replacing old galvanized, polybutylene, or failing pipes with modern copper or PEX for reliable water delivery.
When repiping is needed
Old pipes eventually deteriorate, causing low water pressure, discolored water, frequent leaks, and water quality concerns. Galvanized steel pipes, common in homes built before 1960, corrode internally over time, restricting water flow and rusting. Polybutylene pipes, used in the 1980s and 1990s, are prone to brittle failure and leaks.
If you are experiencing recurring leaks, rust-colored water, low pressure at multiple fixtures, or have been advised that your pipes are at the end of their service life, repiping may be the most cost-effective long-term solution. Replacing failing pipes proactively prevents emergency repairs and water damage.
PEX repiping advantages
Modern PEX tubing is the preferred material for repiping projects due to its flexibility, durability, and resistance to corrosion and freezing. PEX can be run through walls and ceilings with fewer connections than rigid pipe, reducing potential leak points. Its flexibility allows it to bend around obstacles, simplifying installation in existing buildings.
PEX is also quieter than metal piping, resists mineral buildup, and is less susceptible to damage from freezing temperatures. The material is color-coded for hot and cold lines, making system identification clear. With a lifespan of 50 years or more, PEX provides a long-term solution for your plumbing system.
The repiping process
Whole house repiping is typically completed in one to three days depending on the home size and accessibility. Our plumbers work efficiently to minimize disruption, running new supply lines through attics, basements, and crawl spaces where possible. Access holes are cut where needed and patched after installation.
The process involves shutting off the water, draining the system, removing old pipes where accessible, running new PEX lines to all fixtures, and connecting to the main water supply. Each fixture is tested for proper flow and temperature before the job is complete.
Cost and value
Repiping is a significant investment, but it provides lasting value through improved water quality, reliable pressure, and elimination of leaks. Financing options are available to help manage the cost. The peace of mind that comes with a modern plumbing system free from the risk of sudden failure is difficult to quantify but extremely valuable.
Partial repiping options are available for homes where only certain sections of pipe are failing. Our team can evaluate your system and recommend the most cost-effective approach, whether that involves targeted repairs, partial replacement, or complete repiping.
